US Olympic Training Center Hosts Annual Schultz Wrestling Meet

The United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado hosts an annual wrestling meet in honor the late Wrestling sensation, Dave Schultz. The Olympic wrestler, was shot to death in 1996 at the age of 36. Schultz had been training and coaching in 1996. He was coaching a wrestling event in, Newton Square, Pennsylvania, when he was shot by a deranged member of the famed, Du Pont Family. Shultz’s killer was subsequently convicted of the wrestler’s murder, and died December of 9th, 2010 in prison. To commemorate the Shultz’s quests and feats in the wrestling arena, and honor his legacy the Center hosts an annual wresting meet in Shultz’s honor. The next event in honor of Dave Schultz being held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, will be in 2012. It will be held from February 1 to February 4th at the center. This meet is for men and women wrestlers aged 29 or older. All athletes that meet eligibility requirements can conveniently register online for this meet. The divisions in the meet are as follows. There will be the, Greco-Roman and Men’s Freestyle Division. The Women’s Freestyle Division. On Wednesday February 1st, will be registration day, open to all eligible athletes that are planning on competing at this meet. There is an Educational Clinic for all FILA officials on this day as well. There will be a medical control clinic, and an official weigh on this day too. On the second day of this meet, Thursday, February 2, the actual events commence. There is an open registration on this day too for any remaining competitors that arrived during the evening. Medical, and weigh-ins will take place on this day too. There are scheduled events on this day, in the afternoon. Saturday February 4th is the closing day.
