Maintaining A Superior Position When Wrestling All Opponents

By admin | January 20, 2012

Wrestling is an ancient sport. It been played for thousands of years, yet the basic rules and approaches has remained the same. The key to wrestling is to attain and maintain a superior position over your opponent. Wrestlers use a variety of tactics to achieve a positional advantage. They employ intricate maneuvers then apply powerful holds. The wrestler with superior position is usually on top of his opponent. This allows him to use gravity and leverage to his advantage. The person who is skillful enough to remain on top is often better able to execute their moves with the assistance of gravity. They can angle their body and bring great pressure to bear on vulnerable parts of the body of the opponent.

There are some wrestlers who are able to lie on their backs and still inflict tremendous amounts of pain on their opponents. For these fighters lying on their backs is a superior position. This is rare, however. For most fighters their strategy dictates they remain on top of their opponent. From a top position the fighter is able to add their body weight to the holds in which they have placed their opponents and force them to submit.
